Engineering Courses, Stream, & Career Options A Complete Guidance
It is the study of the application of science to the optimum conversion of the resources of nature to the user of humankind. In simple words, we can put The application of scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them in combination, to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design, or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions, the economics of operation and safety for life and property.
Engineering is a stream of education that involves the application of Science, Technology, and Mathematics, and these courses deal with designing, building, and usage of machines, engines, and structures. This field offers a range of career opportunities across all industries, making it one of the most sought-after courses pursued by students after Class 12th, especially those from the Science stream.
There are 23 courses that belong to Engineering and which a person is eligible to pursue after 12th, Graduation, Post Graduation. Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering are the top five engineering streams according to the MHRDs AISHE report. Besides these, there are numerous other engineering specializations/branches that candidates can choose from.

Diploma (Polytechnic)
Diploma in Engineering is a professional course which is of a total of 3 years duration. Diploma Engineering course which students can join after 10th and also get the basic understanding of the engineering field. Students learn and understand the basic principles of scientific methods, computing and mathematical techniques to solve basic and common problems. A diploma in engineering helps the students in getting jobs as well.

BE/BTech
B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) or B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) One of the most demanding courses in India. Bachelor's in Engineering is a graduate-level program that is considered a knowledge-oriented course where more emphasis is given on the theoretical part of the curriculum. In B.E. Course Internships and industrial visits may be an essential part of the curriculum.
Bachelor in Technology is also a graduate-level program done directly after a student's 10+2. B.Tech is skill-oriented which gives more emphasis on practical. In B.Tech Course Internships and industrial visits are a mandatory part of the curriculum.
In the current scenario, the name of the degree doesn't make much of a difference if the institutions that offer B.Tech or B.E, are following AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approved courses.

B.Tech lateral entry is a course where a diploma student or a student who has done B.Sc can get admission directly in the second year or the third semester of the engineering course. B.Tech Lateral Entry Program is an innovative program, in which students who have completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering or B.Sc. degree or equivalent examination with at least 50% marks can take admission.
When it comes to lateral entry in B. Tech, some colleges conduct an entrance test before giving admissions. Whereas some colleges give direct admissions to the students.

Postgraduate Diploma Courses in Engineering is a one-year postgraduate diploma in Engineering. PG Diploma Courses in Engineering in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth System Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.
ME/MTech
ME is a Master of Engineering and that of MTech is Master of Technology. M.E. is usually designed for students who plan for employment upon graduation and who are already in the engineering workforce.
MTech is a professional postgraduate engineering master's degree program awarded to candidates after completion of two years of study in the discipline of engineering. This degree is predicated on a specific branch of engineering. M.Tech. involves the use of technology and other aided stuff.
PhD
Ph.D. Engineering or Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering is 2 to 5 years of course in India. However, it can extend to up to 8 years For part-time students depending upon the registered University. The basic eligibility to pursue this course is to hold a PG degree with at least 50% from a recognized institution in India under any allied Engineering branch.
