GENERAL INFORMATION
RBIPMT is situated at Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Kingsway Camp, Delhi:110009
To commemorate the silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George, the hospital was started in 1935 as Silver Jubilee TB hospital at the ceremonial railway station that was specially built for King George when he was crowned the King & Emperor of India in 1910 over an area of 78 acres as a sanatorium. The coronation grounds near the hospital in Burari still bears an inscription and statues of the royal Durbar.
In fact , the surrounding village on both sides of the road was covered with cloth when the King was taken in a royal procession from the railway station to the coronation grounds . Hence the name of the area is“Dhaka” meaning covered ! It was earlier renamed after the first President of our republic. With the growing number of patients of non-TB respiratory diseases seeking specialized tertiary care, it was converted to an institute of Pulmonary Medicine & Tuberculosis in 2010.
The institute is a teaching institute for the post graduate specialty of Respiratory Diseases recognized by the Medical Council of India.
