The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is an eligibility test for teachers in different states. It is held by both the central and state governments to shortlist eligible teachers for schools and colleges.
TET is mandatory for becoming a government teacher in India. Through this exam, a candidate gets the eligibility to become a teacher. Qualifying for the TET or CTET exam is one of the essential qualifications for candidates to become eligible for appointment as teacher of Class I to VIII in government-aided schools.
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) twice every year. The CTET eligibility is fixed according to the guidelines framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
TET Eligibility
Candidates should obtain a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 45 percent marks. Candidates should obtain a degree in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or complete any other prescribed teacher training program/course.
The candidate must have done graduation and appearing in the final year of the 2-year diploma in elementary education. Candidates should be a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 35 years of age.
TET/CTET Exam Pattern
TET/CTET has two papers, Paper 1 & 2. Paper 1 is the primary level for the candidates who wish to become a teacher at the primary level and paper 2 is for the upper primary level. It is for those candidates who want to teach junior classes (6th-10th).
