B.Tech Leather Technology is a four-year course. Leather Technology is associated with a branch of technology that deals with the art and science of creating unique designs of leather clothing, adornments, gear footwear, etc. that are aesthetic to the eye. The course gives knowledge about the various technologies used as well as their applications.
Candidates understand the comprehensive processes and principles applied in the manufacturing of leather from a plethora of raw materials such as jute, rubber, raw leather, plastic, canvas and so on. Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Leather Technology
1. The candidates who wish to study this course are required to have an intermediate (10+2) degree in subjects such as physics chemistry and mathematics.
2. Candidates are expected to have a minimum score of 50-70% in their prior examinations to secure successful admission in this course.
3. In the case where Grade points are not awarded only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for the General/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC category.
Admission Process
1. Colleges publish notice of admission on their website from a period of June when most Indian universities would have finished degree exams.
2. Candidate to apply for each college, as each college considers each mark as the cut-off mark.
3. Some private colleges and deemed universities perform their counselling process by conducting their university-level entrance exams.
4. Candidates are also expected to have qualified entrance exams such as JEE Main and JEE Advanced to avail admission to colleges of their respective choice.
5. Candidates who qualify for the test are called for an interview before the final seat allotment.
Career after B.Tech Leather Technology
After Graduates can find jobs in leather extraction and refinement companies. Leather products, including shoes and garments, can be made from natural or synthetic leather. Graduates of the program may also go on to work in the garment and footwear industry.
The course is designed for corporate continuing education, as the theory and practical elements are taught intensively. Designers are also employed by leather garment production houses and boutiques. Established designers also hire young designers to work under them.
After completing the course, the leatherworker can find a career as a production manager in a reputed leather manufacturing company. They can also work as a designer and gain reasonable profits from the sale of leather products. A career in this field requires excellent mathematical, computer, and people management skills.
