The Medical College at Ner Chowk was founded by Sh. Oskar Fernandes the hon’ble Labour & Employment Minister GOI in the year 2009. In the year 2012, Prof Dr D.S. Dhiman was appointed first Dean of the college by ESIC. In the year 2012-13, ESIC applied to MCI for inspection but the LOP could not be granted to ESIC on account of, various aministrative reasons. In the year 2013-14 & 2014-15 the same situation prevailed.In the year 2013 a blood donation camp was organized in the campus of ESIC with the help of an NGO and the same was inaugurated by Hon’ble Health Minister of H.P. Thakur Kaul Singh.The building of ESIC was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Labour & Employment Minister G.O.I Hon’ble Oskar Fernandes along with Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Raja Virbhadra Singh Ji and in the auspicious presence of Thakur Kual Singh, Hon’ble Health & Revenue Minister, Sh. Anil Sharma Hon’ble RD & PR Minister and Sh. Prakash Chaudhary Hon’ble Excise Minister of Himachal Pradesh in May, 2014.In the year 2016, the management of ESIC showed its reluctance to run this college at its own and ultimately the project was handed over to the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh after signing a MOU containing certain conditions.
The Govt. of Himachal Pradesh has applied to the MCI to accord permission for starting the batch from 2017-18 for this medical college now named as Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Govt. Medical College, Mandi at Ner Chowk and the following administrative officers have been appointed :
