Indian Nursing Council is a national regulatory body for nurses and nurse education in India. Indian Nursing Council (INC) is an autonomous regulatory body for nurses and nursing education in India in 1947. It is a national organization under the Government of India and the Ministry of Family Welfare that the Central Government constitutes under the Indian Nursing Council Act (1947) of the Indian Parliament.
From observing and establishing new standards to providing recognition to new options or universities (both domestic and foreign). INC offers diploma courses like Auxillary Nurse and Midwife Program, General Nursing and Midwifery, Under Graduate courses like B.Sc in Nursing, Post Graduate M.Sc in Nursing and M.Phil in Nursing, PhD in Nursing.
The aims and Objectives of the council
1. Register and re-register the practising nurses, midwives, ANM/FHW, Female Health supervisors, and Female Health Assistants employed in NCI.
2. Licensing, supervision and recognition of training institutions of nursing.
3. Conducting continuing nursing education programmes for in-service clinical nurses, ANM's nursing faculty members of colleges and schools of nursing.
4. Handling grievances and appeals of aggrieved persons related to refusal of recognition, affiliation and registration.
Purposes of the Indian Nursing Council (INC)
1. To provide a database of available practising nurses in the states.
2. To improve the standards of health care in India.
3. To serve as an agency to develop nursing staffing norms, recruitment policy, pay & remuneration and any other nursing-related policies.
4. To enable the nurses, ANM/FHW, Midwives, and Female Health Assistants to provide care to the patients through safe practices.
5. The council is accountable to provide recognition to a Degree/ Certificate/ Diploma awarded by Foreign Academies.
6. Advising diverse State Nursing Councils, State Governments, Central Governments and Examining Boards on dissimilar crucial items concerning nursing education in India.
7. Endorsing research in nursing.
8. Adaptable policies for nursing training platforms for the improvement of the quality of nursing schooling.
9. Recommending professional conduct and code of ethics.
10. Observing and establishing uniform morals of nursing education for auxiliary nurse midwives, health visitors, and nurse midwives by leading inspections of different institutions.
Eligibility Criteria for Nursing Entrance Exam
The suitability criteria for Nursing entry exams at UG/ PG/ Diploma/ PhD course is given below:
Bachelor’s Course: To get into a UG-level nursing option, a candidate needs to have passed 10+2 with the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The period of the course would be from three to four years.
Master’s Course: For admittance into a PG-level nursing course, the applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. A masters-level option is two years long.
Diploma Course: To get into a Certificate course in Nursing, the candidate should have passed class 12th. Contingent upon the course, the option could last for a year or two.
PhD Course: To be capable to do a PhD in Nursing, the applicant shall have a Postgraduate degree in the same.
